About Us

Learn more about Cambridge Veterinary Group

We are a small animal practice with a special interest in exotic species and have vivariums and heated bird cages to cater for these species. The clinic has been purpose designed to provide quality facilities for animal care, and includes a large car park, puppy school and garden. We are situated down a long driveway off Cherry Hinton Road in a spacious city location but peaceful garden setting.

Practice History

The practice was established by John Grieve in 1971 to meet local demand for a wide range of veterinary services (including farm animals and small animals). Responding to changing demand over those many years, the range of services provided has become more focused so that now it is a small animal practice with a special interest in exotic species.

Over those years, the name of the practice metamorphosed from John Grieve & Associates through Radnor Courts* Veterinary Practice to Cambridge Veterinary Group (CVG) in 2005.

The original practice premises at 85 Cherry Hinton Road were quickly outgrown, with the current premises purpose-built in 1979. The carefully-planned design, with all staff involved, has worked very well - of course with some subsequent updating and refurbishment.

Ownership of the practice changed to Lucy Crosby in 2012, who had worked at CVG since 2007. Lucy worked hard the develop the practice brand, introduce further facilities and improve team cohesion and communication. She then sold the practice in 2019.

* The name Radnor Courts came from the site name: originally Radnor Tennis Club it was compulsorily purchased by Eastern Electricity for its sub-station (Radnor Primary) and the unused land, originally intended for a substation for the railway when electrified, was bought by John Grieve in 1978. We don’t know where “Radnor” originates: in 1900 the land in that area of Cherry Hinton Road was a farm belonging to Jesus College; the nearest Radnor “link” is Wimpole Hall; any trail seems cold!
